Awesome ski slopes in a low mountain range, family atmosphere and modern lifts – that´s what characterizes the Dachstein West Ski Resort!
The Dachstein West region covers the territory of two federal states. The Lammertal valley lies in the Salzburger Land, while Gosau lies in Upper Austria and whole area is divided into 5 sectors –> Gosau, Rußbach, Annaberg, Zwieselalm and Edtalm. The ski resort is connected by cable cars and lifts from those villages.
Annaberg is connected to the main area by a new modern gondola lift. This area has its own lower hill with two quiet red pistes.
There is the Edtalm mountain meadow between Hornspitz and Zwieselalm, with several easy and intricate red pistes as well and open terrain, which is also marked out for the ski routes.
In the charming landscape of Salzkammergut and within sight of the mighty Dachstein, there are hills with less demanding and mostly shorter routes. The longer ones lead through the forest to the valley villages of Gosau or Rußbach. There you´ll find also the best snow conditions due to the northwest orientation of the slopes. Snow is guaranteed there until the spring months. In Rußbach there is also a well-equipped fun park for snowboardes.
With five access to the mountain peaks, you can reach slopes quickly and comfortably. Whether your accommodation is located in Annaberg, Rußbach or Gosau.
The altitude range of the complex is between 750 and 2100 m. There are 2 cable cars, 8 chair lifts, 18 ski lifts and also 36 slopes.
Slopes in Dachstein West ski resort
In the entire resort of Dachstein West there are 133 km of groomed and regularly snow-covered ski slopes.
The area offers mostly gentle and medium-difficult slopes (blue and red). So it´s especially suitable for beginners, recreational skiing and families with children. But no worries, if you are a lover of adrenaline and fast riding, you´ll find here more demanding downhill slopes and slopes for carving with an elevation of over 500 meters too!
With a length of 44 kilometers, it connects the ski resorts of Gosau, Annaberg and Rußbach.

Ski area
Central ski area connects 51 kilometers of slopes of Gosau, Russbach, Annaberg and Zwieselalm.
The ski swing has two main locations – the Hornspitz peak. There you find comfortable wide and easy blue or red slopes that lead to both Gosau and Russbach. And then the Zwieselalm with mostly shorter but sportier slopes.
Kids areas and ski schools in Dachstein West ski resort
Dachstein West Ski Resort mostly focuses on ski lessons and families with small and older children. You can find 3 ski schools in the area. At all the main boarding statitons (Gosau, Rußbach, Astauwinkel) there are training grounds with kids´ educational parks with nearby located reastaurants and baby-sitting.

- Great ski school for kids, very careful supervision by many ski instructors. Stijn had a great hand with our son and the other young children in the Bambini course.

All facilities for children (playgrounds, kindergartens,…) are at a very high level. This is one of the reasons why the Dachstein West Ski Resort is ideal for family skiing.
Also a pleasant family ski resort “Karkogel” offers pistes of all difficulty levels. Furthermore, check the 3 km long toboggan run in Abentau. It is great for the whole family. Every day Tuesday, Friday and Saturday till 10pm.
Restaurants in Dachstein West ski resort
On the slopes in Dachstein West Ski Resort you can find a wide range of stylish wooden mountain ski huts that look cozy both inside and outside and also tempting sun terraces, where it´s possible to relax in a sun lounger while drinking “Bombardino or Aperol”… 🙂
The cuisine in these restaurants is predominantly Upper Austrian. Order soups (especially goulash, which is sometimes in bread), schnitzel with french fries, sausages or sweet dumplings. But there are also dishes that are not traditionally Austrian. For example spaghetti or lasagna. So everyone can choose what they like the most.

Ski bus
In the entire Dachstein West ski region you can the ski bus from Annaberg and Rußbach to Zwieselalm completely for free.
Ski bus connection to Gosau, Rußbach and Annaberg from Obertraun, Hallstatt, Bad Ischl, Bad Goisern, Golling, Abtenau, St. Martin or Lungötz is included in the price of the valid ski pass.
There are also free local ski buses for your transfer between Gosau, Rußbach and Annaberg.

Accessibility from Hallstatt
For arrivals from Hallstatt are the best access points in Gosau –> at the chairlift to the Hornspitz or at the gondola to the Zwieselalm. Parking is free of charge everywhere.
